What the "Skeleton Key" theme means and what to expect at Alchemy 2010:

Alchemy 2010: Skeleton Key
A key is the essential human instrument for opening locks, decoding ciphers, and revealing treasures. It is said that keys define the person -- that we are somehow measured by how many keys we carry. However, locks are also created by human hands. If so, then we are defined as much by our locks as by our keys.

The skeleton is the framework of life and the hook upon which we hang the flesh of our existence. It is an image which evokes both horror and celebration. The skeleton can be simultaneously intriguing and frightening, inviting us to embrace death and life in the same breath.

The Skeleton Key opens all locks, banishes all wards, makes all things available. It is the solution to the puzzle, the path through the maze, and the secret decoder ring. For it to be useful, you must find the lock that needs unlocking, discover the code that must be broken, and be willing to see what lies beyond. You are the Skeleton Key. Unlock your experience.

What to Expect
In keeping with the Skeleton Key theme, Alchemy 2010 will be filled with puzzles for participants to solve. Imagine the burn landscape dotted with mysteries to unlock, from simple puzzles that require just the effort of one participant, to those that may require the work of a hundred or more. In key places around the land, lighted totem poles will signal how many puzzles have been conquered and how many remain. Key puzzles, when solved, advance the totem poles' stage. All stages MUST be reached in order to burn the central effigy. More significantly, when all of the key puzzles are solved and we reach the final stage, the effigy WILL burn. When exactly that happens depends entirely on how long it takes to surpass those stages.

In keeping with tradition, Alchemy will have a celebration and pageant on Saturday evening. We have reserved from 9:00-9:45pm for a fire conclave, should some participants wish to organize one, and then promptly at 10pm the further festivities will begin. Meet everyone on the hill no later than 10pm to ensure that you not miss an epic experience.
