Yes, Alchemists- this is your newsletter. A source for all the fun, interesting, insightful and useful news as Alchemy 2008 ramps up to the main event October 2nd thru the 6th of this year. Much like a familiar rabbit you may know, we will be putting out an issue each month until closer to the event when the information you need starts to pile up and we will be putting out two issues a month.

Just The Facts M’am

Alchemy will be held from October 2nd - 6th, 2008 at Cherokee Farms in LaFayette, Georgia.  LaFayette is in the north-western portion of the state, about 1.5 hours from Atlanta and 30 minutes from Chattanooga, TN.


Cherokee Farms is comprised of 200+ acres of rolling hills, a beautiful lake to swim in with two docks, lots of open grassy and shaded woody areas for camping, easy to navigate roads throughout the site, propane-powered hot showers, and copious parking for both cars and RVs.


Gates will open on Thursday, October 2 at 9 a.m. and will close on Saturday, October 4 at 8 p.m. in preparation for the big burn! All participants and all their stuff will need to be off site no later than6 p.m. on Monday, October 6.

Volunteering is the lifeblood of a burn, and Alchemy is no exception.  Everyone involved volunteers their time and effort to make this burn possible.

The Art Team aids artists in bringing and displaying their works of art at Alchemy. The Art Team helps in a number of ways, including hosting a fundraiser to help artists interested in Alchemy raise funds for their works.


Center Camp- centercamp@alchemyfestival.com

Center Camp is the home of the Alchemy open mike stage as well as a comfy place to chill and get to know fellow Alchemists.  The Center Camp team organizes this space and is responsible for scheduling open mike time as well as the home of the central What's Happening information board.

The Effigy team designs, transports and build the central burn effigy.    


Event Coordination- event@alchemyfestival.com

The Event Coordination team oversees the smooth operation of all teams and the overall event.

The Fire Conclave team organizes fire performers for the main burn night ritual.

The Fire Safety team is responsible for maintaining safety at the main burn night ritual and at other fire-related installations and performances. 


Greeters and Gate - gate@alchemyfestival.com

The Greeters and Gate team are your first contact at Alchemy.  They handle all check-in and greeting of newly-arrived Alchemy participants.  


Lamp Lighting- lamplighters@alchemyfestival.com

The Lamp Lighters perform the important duty of lighting Alchemy each night.  The team builds and maintains all light poles as well.


Leave No Trace- LNT@alchemyfestival.com

Team Lead: Puzzle/Lee Watts, lee@alchemyfestival.com 

The LNT team is responsible for continuing education about LNT philosophy and techniques and helps Alchemy participants identify ways to help keep their own camps clean.  This team is also the lead organizer for post-festival site recovery, including reseeding of grass where needed.

The Media Team manages the Alchemy website, publishes the newsletter The Alchemist, creates the Survival Guide, organizes a year-round calendar of events, coordinates schedules at Alchemy, oversees advertising and the invitation process, creates signs for on site, and will assist with creating an Information Center at Alchemy.

The Medical team staffs the medical tent as the first responders for medical emergencies and coordinates with external medical emergency organizations.  


Mobile Art- moblieart@alchemyfestival.com

Team Lead: Robert Puckett (Puck), puck@alchemyfestival.com

The Mobile Art team is responsible for coordinating all art car registration as well as all vehicle-related policies and procedures at the vent.  In particular, this team registers and inspects art cars, and handles parking and traffic flow.


Rangers- rangers@alchemyfestival.com

Team lead:  Joshua Bardwell, joshua@alchemyfestival.com

The Ranger team acts as first responders and conflict mediators as well as the site security.  Their primary role is to act to avoid conflicts where possible and facilitate peaceful resolution of conflicts when they occur.


Site Services- site@alchemyfestival.com

Team lead: Co-lead Tunna Kersosene, tunna@alchemyfestival.com, other lead position open

Site Services is responsible for wood and fuel for community burn areas, fuel for Alchemy's generators, porta-potties, and general on-site needs.  


Theme Camp and Site Layout-  theme@alchemyfestival.com

Team lead:  Mike Alberghini, mike@alchemyfestival.com

This team does the main site layout and is the primary contact for all theme camps.  Theme camps registering ahead of time get prime placement on the site. 


Volunteer Services- volunteer@alchemyfestival.com

Team Lead: Co-Lead Scarlett Ross, scarlett@alchemyfestival.com, other lead position open

Volunteer Services will coordinate participants who are looking for a way to contribute before and during the event and will help to coordinate the Information Center onsite.
