Alchemy Work Weekend 2009

Come out and join us for the Alchemy Work/Play Weekend!

What: Alchemy Work/Play Weekend
When: July 31st - August 2nd
Where: Cherokee Farms (The location of the Alchemy Festival)
http://www.alchemyfestival.com/essentials/site-and-directions.html

Here are some of the projects planned for that weekend:

* Building out a sustainable bar to sit up at the effigy.
* Building the permanent screens for the port-a-potties
* Site pacing so we can make more accurate maps
* A bottle of vodka
* Building sustainable message board stands for Connexus
* Lamplighters building projects
* Burning....uh...splitting wood for the ground fires

Tools needed
* Circular saws
* Basic tools like hammers and such

We could use all the help we could get and at night we get to sit
around a camp fire and party.

As always, friends and families welcome. This is a leave no trace
event, so if you pack it in, you pack it out. Bring your tools, your work
gloves, any projects you would like to have some community help with and
your fire toys. We will work during the day and play at night.

If you are planning to attend, drop us a line at apw@alchemfestival.com

Hope to see you there!

Information Regarding Tickets

How Alchemy 2009 Invitations Work

Invitations may be purchased online by registering at the Alchemy
website: http://www.alchemyfestival.com/essentials/invitations.html

This year, you may choose to use EITHER your physical ticket or the gate
keycode that you can find on the status page at
http://www.alchemyfestival.com/essentials/invitations/status.html. You
might choose to use your gate keycode if you accidentally lost your
physical ticket or left it at home. Of course, you can't use BOTH the
ticket and keycode.

If you purchase your invitation later than September 15th there won't be
time to mail you the physical ticket, so your ONLY option will be to use
the gate keycode. Be sure to check the website and print out that page
(http://www.alchemyfestival.com/essentials/invitations/status.html) or
write it down. The gate team will not have your name or other identifying
information other than the keycode. You will need your ID at the gate in
order to sign the necessary waiver forms, however.

If you need to transfer an invitation to another participant, you can do so
by either giving them the physical ticket, or by giving them the keycode.
You don't have to notify us if you do that.

The Final Art Fundraiser Article of the Year!

The final wrap up for this year's Fundraiser can be found here, in it's
entirety: http://www.alchemyfestival.com/fundraiser2009.pdf Go there to
read how we did, how we did it, and where you all sent your cash! As
always, please send questions and comments to art@alchemyfestival.com!

A Message From Connexus

Join the gypsies at Connexus as we help create Alchemy. We need
Greeters (now in our humble caravan rather than at the Gate) to
welcome the wayward wanderers along our road! Greeters get all the fun -
helping new Alchemists shake off the dust of the default world and
introducing them to the lay of the land for Alchemy. Connexus will also use
its crystal ball to find other ways for you to help build the town and burn
it down.... just check in at the caravan for ways to participate/volunteer.
We may even have cool art projects to do! The great Map will be back (and
possibly to scale), so be sure to put your
camp up there. Contact Connexus@alchemyfestival.com with questions or early
time slots.

Lamplighters

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
YOUR LAMPLIGHTERS NEED YOU!

You know those red lanterns that help you find your way to the
port-a-loo in that "oh-so-urgent" moment in the middle of the night? Well,
they don't put themselves there! The Alchemy Lamplighter Team makes sure
those lanterns make it to their posts as the sun sets each night of the
festival.

Wanna get involved and experience the love first hand? Join this
sweet, sexy, and often mysterious clan and learn just what goes into
illuminating our city every night. We're looking for volunteers for Set Up
Crew, Carriers, Lifters and Support.

Set up crew assists in cleaning, filling, and lighting lanterns.
Carriers carry 12 lamps each on shoulder poles along the processional
route. Lifters remove lamps from the carrier poles and place them on the
lamp posts. Support walks the route alongside the carriers, offering
assistance and relighting lanterns if needed. You are welcome to volunteer
in more than one capacity and for as many evenings as you wish. And while
giving of yourself should be reward enough, don't be surprised if you
receive a little extra "love" for helping out.

If there is enough interest, we are considering setting up a
designated Lamplighter Camp where we can commune together over food and
drink (and entice others to join our ranks). As our team grows, we would
like to eventually include a community kitchen and bar where we would share
responsibilities in cooking, bartending, and cleaning. Think of it as a
little family unit within the larger community.

Email lamplighters@alchemyfestival.com for more information, or if you're
ready to sign up, fill out the volunteer form at
http://www.alchemyfestival.com/teams.html.

We are the light.

Kat & Age, Lamplighter Team Leads
Illumination. Navigation. Celebration.

Ranger Social

There will be a social meeting for the Ranger Team on Wednesday,
August 5th at 7:30 PM at the Highlander in Atlanta (931 Monroe Drive
Atlanta, Georgia 30308). There is no agenda per se; let's just hang out,
get to know each other, and have some dinner.

Everyone who is interested in ranger team is invited, both those who have
volunteered and those who have not.

Editors note: The Highlander is 18+ because it allows smoking, so
don't bring the kids!

------------------------------------------------------------
Center Camp Wants You!

Center Camp is looking for people who would like to teach a class or would
like some stage time. We are also looking for donations of loose cloth,
yard furniture pillows and large glass pickle jars. Also, if you are
interested in joining the Center Camp Team, openings are still available.
Please contact amber@alchemyfestival.com

Center Camp would like to display your home made wind chimes around camp.
So, if you are so inclined, please feel free to make a wind chime. We will
have hooks available to display them.

------------------------------------------------------------
Fire Art at Alchemy - a note from the Fire Safety Team

In the interest of avoiding unplanned explosions, Fire Safety recommends
that propane fire art use LP rated hoses, fittings, valves, and other
equipment and have cut-off valves in addition to the regulators at the bulk
tank.  Please label all fuels and store them in appropriate containers.  If
you have any questions about any of this, or if you are bringing
large-scale fire art to the event, please contact us at
firesafety@alchemyfestival.com  We eagerly anticipate enjoying your art and
look forward to a safe and incredibly fun event.
